Our Core Principle
We cannot see, access, or decrypt your data. Your passwords remain encrypted with keys that only you control.
Zero-Knowledge Architecture
ByteGuard is built on a zero-knowledge security model. This means:
Master Password - A password you create yourself, used to unlock the app and derive encryption keys. Your Master Password never leaves your device and is never transmitted over the network.
Secret Key - A recovery key consisting of 12 English words, automatically generated when you create your account. It works together with your Master Password to protect your data, providing an additional layer of security. Even if your Master Password is compromised, your data cannot be decrypted without the Secret Key.
End-to-End Encryption - All data is encrypted on your device before any synchronization. We only see encrypted data that we cannot read.
Local Key Generation - Encryption keys are generated locally using industry-standard algorithms (Argon2id for key derivation, AES-256-GCM for encryption).
No Backdoors - Since your Master Password and Secret Key are never transmitted to our servers, we have no way to recover your data if you lose either one. This is by design and is the fundamental guarantee of your privacy.
Important Notice
Please safeguard your Secret Key. We recommend backing it up via paper record or iCloud Keychain sync to prevent data loss.
Data We Do NOT Collect
We are committed to minimal data collection:
Your master password or any derived keys
Your stored passwords, notes, or sensitive data
Personal identification information
Usage analytics or behavioral data
Device identifiers or fingerprints
Location data
Contacts or other personal content
Data Storage
All your sensitive data is stored locally on your device:
Local Encrypted Database - Your passwords and secure notes are stored in an encrypted database on your device.
Optional iCloud Sync - If enabled, only encrypted data is synchronized. The encryption keys remain on your devices.
Secure Enclave Integration - On supported devices, we use the Secure Enclave for biometric authentication.
Your Data, Your Control
You can export or delete your data at any time from within the app settings.
Access - View all your stored data within the app at any time.
Export - Export your data in standard formats for portability.
Delete - Permanently delete your data at any time.
Consent Withdrawal - Withdraw consent for optional features like iCloud sync.
